Greene County plays football on the road tonight in Atlantic for a Class 2A District 9 contest. Coach Caden Duncan’s Rams are top five ranked, 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the district. The Trojans are 2-4 and 1-1. Atlantic led undefeated and highly ranked OABCIG in Ida Grove last Friday before falling 28-7. The Rams were 45-22 Homecoming winners last week vs. Kuemper Catholic. The Trojans also have a win over the Knights, 20-18, two weeks ago. Tonight is Atlantic’s Homecoming game.
The Greene County offense is humming along at 44 points per game, averaging 227 yards through the air and 185 on the ground. Coach Duncan talks about what that does to opposing defenses. “It’s really tough for opposing defenses because they kind of have to choose what they’re going to try and stop. We kind of wait to see what they’re doing, then choose what we thinks going to work the best.”
Coach Duncan is the Rams’ defensive coordinator. He said he wouldn’t like facing Greene County’s offense from a defensive perspective. “That balance has been really effective for us, and a lot of it comes down to the offensive line, too, because they’re involved in passing and running, and they’ve been doing a great job. Coach (Cole) Jaeschke has been doing a great job keeping us balanced, and keeping the offense at a good tempo. It’s great to see them executing the way they are.”
