Work is progressing well on the new Raccoon River Pet Rescue facility in Perry, and recently the project received a boost in their fundraising from a local business.

On Tuesday, Raccoon Valley Bank presented $25,000 to the animal shelter, which is currently being built on Ivy Place, south of Highway 141. Northern Dallas County has been without a dedicated animal shelter since the dissolution of the Perry Humane Society last summer, though plans for Raccoon River Pet Rescue have been in the works for quite some time. The exterior of the building is largely complete, with mostly interior work left to be finished. The money from Raccoon Valley Bank will help with finishing touches, such as furnishings and hiring support staff. A bank representative said they were happy to help with the funding, as an animal shelter is a critical need for the City.

The Board of Directors indicated that the facility will be completed in November, and ready to accept stray animals shortly after that. There was a ceremonial groundbreaking in May to celebrate the official launch of construction, and the work has progressed quickly ever since.
