The pickleball trend has become a popular one at the McCreary Community Building in Perry, and to keep the momentum going the organizers are bringing in trainers for some special clinics.
Perry City Council member Barb Wolling has championed pickleball in Perry, and she’s excited to welcome the Des Moines Metro Pickleball Club to teach players of all skill levels more about the sport. The training for beginners and advanced players will be Tuesday, October 1st from 9-10:30 a.m., while the intermediate session will run Tuesday, October 8th at the same time. In both cases, there will be open play to follow until noon. There is no cost to attend the clinics, though non McCreary Center members will have to pay a $2 gym fee. RSVPs are recommended, and all equipment will be provided.
Wolling says pickleball is the fastest growing recreational sport in the United States due to the simple rules, the fact it can be played by people of all ages and fitness levels, and the overall fun of gameplay. It’s played on a small court with a net, using large paddles and a whiffle ball, with rules similar to table tennis. For more information or to register for the training, contact Wolling by email at bjwoll@msn.com or by phone at 515-465-2017.
