The AC/GC football team will hit the road tonight in what’s sure to be their toughest matchup of the season.
The Chargers will head to #3 Van Meter to try and give the bulldogs their first regular season loss since August 2015. Including several deep playoff runs and a state championship in 2017, Van Meter is 50-4 since 2015. The gap between the two programs was put on display last season when Van Meter made quick work of AC/GC, winning 63-6.
You should know by now, this is a much different Charger football team.
AC/GC has started 4-0, matching their combined win total from the past two season, in four one sided victories. Despite outscoring their opponets 210-74 and avenging three losses from last season, they have continued to be left out of the Des Moines Register’s weekly top-10 rankings.
This game could change that. A strong performance, and dare I say possible victory, would change the perception of AC/GC football for the foreseeable future. This will be the biggest stage for the program since the merger between Adair-Casey and Guthrie Center high schools. The Chargers have shown the ability to light up the scoreboard bringing in the second highest scoring offense in Class 1A and are led by two of the top-10 rushers in the state in Colby Jacobe and Gavin Cornelison.
