Greene County makes its longest football road trip in several years tonight when Coach Caden Duncan’s Rams go to Iowa’s southwest corner to open Class 2A District 9 action in Shenandoah. The 4-0 Rams are top five ranked while the Mustangs are 1-3, but coming off a win last Friday to snap a 12 game losing streak dating back to last season.
Quarterback Kyle Cerven accounted for five touchdowns in the Mustangs’ 52-14 victory over Class A Riverside (Oakland), four through the air and one on the ground as Shenendoah piled up 472 yards of total offense. The Mustangs’ defense was also stout and forced four turnovers.
The Rams are averaging 43 points a game on offense, while allowing just 12 per contest. Of the first four opponents this season, only Nevada (3-1) has scored points against the Greene County defense. Turnovers were a problem early this season for Greene County, but the starters have gone the last eight quarters without turning the ball over.
