The Dallas County Board of Supervisors convened Tuesday morning in regular session.

The meeting began with an update on the reciprocal agreement between the South Dallas County Landfill in Adel and the countywide Metro Waste Authority. Adel City Council Member Shirley McAdon gave a presentation, underlining the agreement, which is set to expire at the end of September. The Supervisors took no action but promised they’d take the issue under advisement. The first action item on the agenda was the approval of a pay application in the amount of $95,942.42 to All Makes for courthouse furnishings. Jerry Purdy with the Farnsworth Group pointed out that there is still $5,049.60 left to be paid, which is for release of retainage, and a pay application for that will be considered at the next meeting.

Following that, Purdy took the Board through some initial site study plans for the current Sheriff’s Office building, which will be transitioned to a courts facility once the new law enforcement center is completed. Purdy also briefly went over the plans for the next phase of the courthouse renovation, which includes turning the west wing of the second floor into a new courtroom. Other items that were approved included: increasing the pay rate for congregate meal workers through Aging Resources to $7.50 per hour; hiring two part time nurse practitioners for the Veterans Affairs Department; a 28E agreement with the City of Redfield for law enforcement services; an event request from the 3rd Place Community Center for a 24-hour run around the courthouse next April; and the abatement of mobile home taxes.

Finally, the Board held a discussion on the sale of seven soon-to-be unused buildings, once they’re vacated by the Secondary Roads Department and Dallas County Conservation. No decision was made at the meeting, but the Supervisors gave some initial direction to the Operations Department on what they’re looking for.
