It’s officially fall and to help get everyone in the spirit, Jefferson Matters: Main Street Tower View Team is hosting a new contest.

The Scarecrow Invasion-Movie Edition encourages participants to create a scarecrow resembling  their favorite movie character. Those wanting to participate are to email JMMS at director@jeffersonmatters.org with their name, movie scarecrow character(s) and a preference of location. The locations will then be determined. The scarecrows will be placed on the downtown square and surrounding blocks. The scarecrows can be sitting, standing, and/or hanging around. Participants must provide their own materials for the scarecrows. Co-Chair Angie Gingery talks about where they got the inspiration to do this kind of contest.

“So there are other communities, there was one in Canada that we kind of modeled it after. But we thought this was something fun. There’s no cost to participate. It’s just for people to get out and do something cool that makes our downtown district shine.”

The scarecrows can be put in place on Monday, September 30th and will be on display for the month of October. Their Facebook page, The Scarecrow Invasion 2019, will have pictures posted for the public to vote on a winner. The winning participant will then receive a trophy during the Trick-or-Treat Around the Square event on Thursday, October 24th.
