The first-half of property taxes are due at the end of this month.
Greene County Treasurer Katlynn Mechaelsen says there are a variety of ways to pay property taxes. The typical route is paying through an escrow account or stopping into the Treasurer’s office and paying by check or debit/credit card. You can also pay online at iowatreasurers.org. For those who can’t pay their property taxes in full, Mechaelsen notes her office offers partial payment plans.
“You can walk into our office at any point and pay via check, cash, (debit/credit) card, as small or as large of a portion that you want. So you can also pay online, at iowatreasurers.org, there you can actually set up a payment plan.”
Mechaelsen points out opportunities for individuals to receive credits for paying their property taxes.
“So there are programs out there for the eldery and disabled. If you are 65 (years-old) or older or completely disabled you can apply for the credit. There are specific guidelines you must meet and I would encourage everyone to visit our website.”
Mechaelsen adds if property taxes aren’t paid by September 30th’s deadline, there will be a 1.5-percent penalty per month of the balance until it is paid. For more information about property taxes, click the link below.
