The deadline to file nomination forms for the upcoming city and school elections has passed, and there will be a few contested seats around Dallas County.

One of the more contentious races will be for the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School Board, which is also the contest that has the most open seats. Three at-large positions are open, as well as one to fill a vacancy, and there are seven candidates vying for them, including incumbents Bart Banwart and Tim Canney, and challengers Sue Brown, Kirk Feher, Heith Hockenberry, Ryan Smith, and Nicole West. Meanwhile, unlike the election two years ago that saw a close mayoral race and two hotly contested council seats, the candidates for mayor and three Adel City Council seats are all incumbents, including Mayor Jim Peters, and Council members Shirley McAdon, Dan Miller, and Bob Ockerman.

Perry will head into the election with the status quo making up the ballot for both the city and school election. The incumbents for mayor, three council seats, and three school board positions are the only candidates that filed nomination paperwork. They include Mayor John Andorf, at-large Council Chuck Schott, ward one Council Dean Berkland, ward three Council Barb Wolling, and at-large School Board Kenia Alarcon, Linda Andorf, and Jim Lutmer.

Other contested races around Dallas County include: five candidates – Danny Beyer, Rober Haxton, Ryan Coon, Ryan Kluss, and Gary Licht – for three seats on the Dallas Center City Council; two candidates – Maris Masengill and Colton Morman – for Dawson Mayor; four candidates – Judy Daggett, June Rector, Alecia Lleshi, and Timothy Hays – for three seats on the Linden City Council; two candidates – Dave Griffith and Wade Reed – for Redfield Mayor, as well as four candidates – Amber Baker, Darrell Bowman, John Hoy, and Vince Stonehocker – for three seats on the Redfield City Council; three candidates – Matthew Cavanaugh, Kelly Kirts, and Jared Stone – for two seats on the Woodward City Council; and three candidates – Sam Behrens, Jennifer Benbow, and Angie Sebastian – for the District 5 seat on the Woodward-Granger School Board.

As a reminder, the election for both cities and schools will be held for the first time on the same day, Tuesday, November 5th. The withdraw and objection deadline is September 24th, and absentee and early voting will open on October 7th.
