This Saturday, St. Patrick’s Catholic School in Perry is hosting their annual Light Up the Knight event, as a way to reward students for all their recent fundraising efforts.
The event is open to St. Pat’s students and their parents, as well as members of the church parrish, and it will run from 4-8:30 p.m. at the Perry High School track. Organizer Jody Lutterman says the event is sponsored by the St. Pat’s Home and School organization, and all proceeds from the fundraiser will pay for field trips, classroom supplies, and other things not covered on the school’s budget. “Instead of doing a whole bunch of fundraisers and selling things throughout the year, we do this one big event. So the kids go out and ask for donations, the level of donations that they get and turn in earns them glow items. So this Saturday is when we do our celebration event, and they will have inflatables, and concession stand, and games to play. And then at the end of the night they wear all their glowing items that they earned, and we walk laps around the track in the dark.”
The evening will wrap up with the release of floating lanterns, which Lutterman says has turned into something everyone looks forward to each year. Raccoon Valley Radio’s Big Red Radio will also be at Light Up the Knight, playing music and providing public address services. In case of inclement weather, the plan is to move the event into the Perry Middle School gym.
