The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Tuesday.
The meeting began with an update from Transfer Station Director Jotham Arber. He told the Board that the amount of trucking from the station to the Carroll landfill decreased this past month, though the cost of doing self-trucking slightly increased, from about $6,691.33 in July to about $7,033.33 in August. Arber commented on this fiscal year’s budget, saying if it weren’t for the purchase of two new trucks and trailers the station would be earning more than it’s spending. He also suggested someday purchasing a cheaper truck and trailer as a back-up, and he proposed raising the metal dumping fee from $30 to $60. Arber said the current fee isn’t dissuading people from dumping metal mixed with other garbage, when it is free to dump metal in a separate collection pile. Supervisor Cliff Carney suggested to raise the fee to $100 to take effect January 1st. Arber said he would bring it as an action item to a future Board meeting.
Next, the Board approved assigning the county held tax sale certificate for a parcel to the City of Bagley. The meeting agenda incorrectly stated the parcel was in the City of Bayard, though the parcel number was correct. The parcel has $329 in back taxes, and is located where the former Hunter Grocery Store sat. The Board agreed to wait to abate the taxes until next week. Finally, the Board received an update from Human Resources Director Pam Lane. She mentioned that the public health department is working on creating a lactation room in a former breakroom located near the Auditor’s Office, which will comply with state law. She also mentioned there will be an upcoming CPR and automated external defibrillator class for courthouse employees. She then discussed looking into the amount of usage and service providers all county employee’s work cell phones have, before determining whether to group them all under one provider.
