Congressman Steve King
The trade war between the United States and China has waged on for almost two years. One U.S. Congressman believes there’s no end in sight.
Iowa’s Fourth Congressional District Representative Steve King says he has never believed that there was any talk of finalizing a trade deal with China, because he thinks there needs to be guaranteed safeguards against the Chinese stealing U.S. intellectual property. He describes how ruthless the Chinese government is.
“They’re a godless nation state that believes that the people in China, the purpose for their lives is to serve the state. They’re cold hearted and cold eyed, and although I know a fair number of Chinese people that I like personally, this is that government-the gangsters-that run China.”
While trade talks continue with China, King says the U.S. is looking to other countries to trade with. He points out trade expansion negotiations with Japan are currently happening, along with other countries like the United Kingdom once they withdraw from the European Union (EU). Another trade discussion is happening with the EU to trade for liquified natural gas, GMO soybeans and growth hormone beef.
However, King believes the U.S. will get back the same Chinese markets they had once a trade agreement is in place. To hear more from King about this topic and others, listen to yesterday’s and today’s Community State Bank in Paton Let’s Talk Greene County programs.
