The Perry School Board met for a special session Monday evening, and the only item on the agenda was consideration of the bids for package two of the wrestling/multipurpose room and industrial tech facility project.
The Board met with a representative from construction managers UNESCO, who presented two bids for the work that includes all the physical structures of the project. The low bid was from Sande Construction of Humboldt, who gave a price of $3.63 million. Additionally, they included good prices for three alternatives on the project, including one that will actually lower the price of construction, so the Board approved the bid with those included. Superintendent Clark Wicks said the Board and UNESCO were pleased with the response from bidders, and felt the prices were fair. “They always have kind of a benchmark of what they want to have these bids come in at, and they had it at $3.9 million. So it was below what they had figured out. So it came out at a very good rate and we’re tickled to see that, and also hear some good things about Sande Construction. So things are looking up for our construction site, both for the industrial tech and the multipurpose room/wrestling room.”
The total project cost is currently sitting at just over $6.1 million, a fair amount under the $6.5 million approved in the bond referendum. As for the timeline, UNESCO says if everything goes right construction could be wrapped up by early August of 2020, and the school able to move in prior to the next school year. However, Wicks said they won’t hold the contractors to that projection, as there are typically unforeseen delays throughout construction.
