The 2019 Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Homecoming week reached a climax Thursday night, as seemingly the entire community showed up for the annual Tiger Fest event and king and queen coronation.
Due to inclement weather throughout the day, the event was moved inside to the north gymnasium of the ADM High School/Middle School complex. Several businesses and organizations set up booths in the gym, with information, games, and prizes for attendees of all ages. The ADM FFA also served a fundraising meal in the cafeteria, while the Fine Arts Boosters offered dessert. Additionally, there were inflatables set up in the south gym for kids.
The main event of the night was the coronation of the Homecoming King and Queen. As heard live on Raccoon Valley Radio, this year’s royalty is Taylor Hughes and Paige Martin. We caught up with them after they were crowned, and Hughes described his feelings after hearing his name called. “I mean, I was ecstatic! And I can’t believe everyone chose me. So thank you all so much, and I love you all very much! I’ve had so many wonderful memories here, and this is probably just going to be one of them. Because well, I just never expected this to happen!” Martin echoed those thoughts, saying, “I was happy! I never expected it to happen either!”
Following the coronation, everyone headed outside to take in the annual powder puff flag football game, and luckily the sun had come out by that point and the participants and fans alike had a good time. Don’t forget to listen to FM 107.9 KKRF tonight for live play-by-play coverage of the ADM Homecoming football game against Grinnell, with pregame starting at 7 p.m. and kickoff at 7:30.
