progressive-foundry-expansion-proposal-3

At the most recent Perry City Council meeting, one of the primary action items was approval of the vacation of a block of 2nd Street downtown.

As previously reported, the section of the road between Bateman and Rawson streets was requested to be closed by Progressive Foundry. The company plans to construct a new building in the current right-of-way, and also have a loading zone specifically for semis that come to the plant. After much discussion amongst themselves, the Planning and Zoning Commission, and the public, the Council decided vacating the street was in the City’s best interest and approved an ordinance for it.

However, City Administrator Sven Peterson says the road vacation is just one of several tasks in getting the Progressive Foundry expansion underway. “So what that does is that takes it from road right-of-way to just property. From there we’ll have to go through our regular disposal of property process, which is a public hearing and all that public process that we go through to dispose of public property. And then from there, hopefully the Foundry will be able to get their project going and under roof this winter yet.”

Peterson also points out that the City has begun the process of widening Bateman Street between 1st and 4th streets, which will make traffic around the Foundry flow easier and make it easier for semis to maneuver. He says he’s excited for all the activity in Perry, particularly the revitalization of the downtown area, and adds that the Progressive Foundry expansion is an important component.
