The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School District has a new Activities Director, though it’s a familiar face to some in central Iowa. Larry Moklestad was named the interim AD for the District, becoming the newest Tiger after spending around two decades as a Toreador.

Moklestad retired in 2018 from the Boone School District, wrapping up a 39-year career as a teacher, coach, and administrator. However, he was coaxed out of retirement to spend one year as the ADM Activities Director following the resignation of Reece Satre earlier in August. Moklestad’s hiring was officially approved at a special ADM School Board meeting Wednesday morning. Superintendent Greg Dufoe says the District is breathing a sigh of relief that they were able to get someone so qualified on such short notice. “We’re just really excited to have Larry join us to fill this interim position for us this year. He’s going to start right away, and he’s going to jump in and take everything on. And we’re just really excited to have somebody of his caliber and experience join us this year, as we look to go through the search process for the permanent replacement some time this winter.”

Dufoe says the School Board elected to fill the open AD position on a temporary basis because the timing of Satre’s resignation would have made it difficult to attract a reasonable pool of qualified candidates. He points out they focused on locating retired individuals who would be interested in serving for a year, and Moklestad’s name was at the top of that list. The District will begin their search for a permanent Activities Director in earnest this January.
