With school back in session, a program with the Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department will start up tomorrow.

ReCharge Wednesdays are every Wednesday when school is in session, from 2-3:30pm. JPRD Director Vicky Lautner says staff and volunteers pick up the kindergarten-5th graders at the Greene County Middle School and walk them to the Greene County Community Center. She describes the program, which includes a healthy snack at the end.

“We like to take them to the (city) parks. We’ve been to Chautauqua Park and played on the playground. We go to Russell Park and we’ve gone down to the (St. Joseph’s) Catholic playground area. We take them on little adventures. We want to install in them exercise and being able to run around, and use up energy, and then come back here (to the community center) for a nice snack.”

Children must sign a waiver before joining the free program, which is sponsored by the McFarland Clinic Providers. Lautner says waiver forms can be obtained at the Greene County Elementary and Middle schools. She adds that they are also looking for volunteers to help with the program.
