Mary “Raedeen” Manor, age 92, of Bayard, IA, passed away on Friday, August 23, 2019 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at the First United Methodist in Bayard with Pastor Karen Patrick officiating. Organist for the service will be Martha Wolf. Casket bearers will be Larry Miller, Terry Miller, David Burmeister, Chuck Parker, Joe Webb, Nathan Parker, and Cassadie Zisoff. Burial will be in Highland Township Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids from 5 – 7 P.M. on Tuesday evening. The casket will be moved to the church at 9:30 A.M. on Wednesday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Born on November 21, 1926 in Creston, IA, she was the daughter of Elmer and Jessie (Saxton) Laughlin. She grew up in Creston and graduated from Creston High School in 1943. She then attended Creston Junior College and earned her teaching certificate. When she was 19 years old, she moved to Bayard and began teaching second grade and later taught third grade for 27 years. She was married to Richard “Dick” Manor on June 12, 1949 at the Creston Baptist Church. Raedeen earned her Bachelor’s degree in education in 1981 graduating Cum Laude. She belonged to the Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron and she was active with Rainbow Girls. She belonged to Bayard Women’s Club and served as president, she served on the Bayard Library Board for many years, and she was also a member of the Friends of the Bayard Library. Raedeen was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Dandylions. She was an active member of the Bayard United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and Esther Circle. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, camping, gardening and working in her yard, but most of all she loved spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter.
Raedeen is survived by her two daughters: Julie Parker and her husband Longley of Estes Park, CO and Sheryl Bartling of Altoona, IA; three grandchildren: Chuck Parker of Clive, IA, Nathan Parker of Bailey, CO, and Cassadie Zisoff and her husband Eric of Altoona, IA; a great-granddaughter Ailah and one on the way!! She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Raedeen was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Jessie Laughlin; her mother and father-in-law Luther and Viola Manor; her brother Gerald Laughlin; her sister Virginia Miller; and her husband Richard Manor in 2003.
