Friday evening, the Perry community gathered at Dewey Field to celebrate the start of the fall sports season, as the Perry Booster Club hosted the annual kickoff event.
The festivities began with the volleyball team’s “Blue-White Scrimmage” inside the Perry Sports Pavilion. Attendees were treated to a preview of the team in exchange for a sports drink donation. The crowd then moved outside, where there was Perry merchandise for sale and a Booster Club membership drive. Additionally, Hy-Vee was on hand for a grill-out, and 50% of the proceeds went towards the Perry Booster Club. The Raccoon Valley Radio Big Red Radio was also in attendance to provide a soundtrack for the event.
Raccoon Valley Radio’s Shawn Kenney then served as the emcee for the introduction to each of the fall activities, including the cross country, swim, volleyball, and football teams, as well as the marching band and cheer squad. The coaches and directors for each group were interviewed by Kenney, and then they introduced the student participants. The entry fee for this part of the kickoff was also a sports drink donation. The Booster Club was pleased with the amount they ended up with, with all of it to be used by the various teams throughout their seasons. The celebration ended with the football team’s “Blue-White Scrimmage.”
