Don’t forget, the annual “Viva Perry!” Latino Festival is today, with a wide assortment of activities happening downtown.
The event is hosted by Hispanics United for Perry (HUP), and this year they’re offering new festivities such as a 5K fun run and a pupusa eating contest, in addition to traditional favorites such as the parade, live music, dance performances, kids games, and food, craft and information vendors. At 2 p.m., HUP will present their annual Outstanding Citizen Award, and the event will conclude with a performance by the band, Los Mismos del Valle, from 6-8 p.m. Apart from the vendors and 5K, all the activities at the Latino Festival are free, though free will donations will be accepted with all proceeds benefiting the HUP scholarship program. Organizers encourage people of all backgrounds and cultures to attend the event and celebrate Perry’s rich Hispanic heritage as a community.
Residents are also reminded that Willis Avenue between 13th and 2nd Street will be closed during the parade, and 2nd between Willis and Lucinda Street will be blocked off the entirety of the celebration.
