Since the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission’s approval of the agreement between Wild Rose Entertainment and DraftKings, Incorporated for sports-betting was made official Thursday, Wild Rose Jefferson has been doing extensive renovations to prepare for the opening of the new gambling service.

Wild Rose Jefferson General Manager Travis Dvorak says it’s exciting news to have a sports-betting partner and adds there are three ways people can place bets at the casino. Ongoing renovations are being done to the facility to allow for sports betting in the casino, Coaches Corner and online. He talks about each of those areas, starting with the casino.

“On the northeast corner, kind of near the non-smoking area, we’ve cleared out an area, and on the casino floor, we’re going to have all the t.v.’s for our odds boards. We’ll have kiosk machines (and) we’re going to have some (regular) t.v.’s. The second part will be at our Coaches (Corner) Sports Bar. We have that stadium seating where that big projector is, on the bottom of that, we are going to turn into a sports betting area. We are going to put in a counter, we’re going to have a couple of kiosks or betting terminals down there. But this will be actual cashiers where you can physically talk to somebody and take your bets.”

As for the online option, Dvroak says you have to register an account at the casino, but then you can place bets as long as you are in Iowa.

As for an anticipated timeline of when bets can be taken, the IRGC allowed casinos to start taking bets on August 15th. Dvorak says the next steps are to add DraftKings equipment to their designated areas. He adds there’s no clear timetable of when the casino can start taking bets.
