The 2019 Iowa State Fair is officially in the books, and several Dallas County residents enjoyed a great deal of success in the wide assortment of contests held throughout the event.

We previously reported Dallas County winners at the halfway point of the fair, and the second half of competitions featured several wins by residents. In the FFA Breeding Beef competition, Chase Hutcheson of Adel was named Reserve Champion for commercial cow-calf. During the Creative Arts events, Kathy Lewis of Adel took first in several categories in the China and Porcelain Painting division, including: professional floral design; professional animal, bird, or fish; professional box; enamel, paste, gold, or luster; and vase, pitcher or bowl. She also placed second in: fruit or vegetable design; scenic design; Dresden; Christmas decoration or other holiday; and tray.

In the food category, Katherine Cornwell of Adel won first place in the Beaverdale Confections filled chocolates competition, and Jimmy Baumhover of Woodward earned first in the youth under 12 bar cookie category of the Midwest Living Cookies contest. Finally, Matilyn Lautner of Adel dominated the Prospect Calf Cattle Show in the Open Class Livestock and Horse event. She had the overall Grand Champion prospect market animal, while also winning Grand Champion in market animal, any other breed steer, and crossbred steer, and reserve champion for shorthorn plus heifer. Lautner also placed first in: purebred breeding heifer – shorthorn plus class and foundation simmental class 1; registered market steer – any other breed class 2; and crossbred market steer – weight 600-640.
