A reminder for Jefferson residents that the Hazardous Waste Drop-off event is happening this morning.
It will take place from 9-11am on the north side of the downtown square. The City has partnered with Metro Waste Authority to continue the annual event. Residents can drop off approved items, including used oil filters, metal polishes, fluorescent light bulbs, aerosol cleaners and paints, among others. There are also items that won’t be accepted including ammunition, medications, latex paint, and others. Jefferson City Administrator Mike Palmer explains why latex paint will not be accepted.
“Latex paint can just be dried out in the can and thrown away in your regular trash. If you have latex paint in there or cans that they see is latex (paint), they’ll advise you of how to take care of that.”
In addition to hazardous waste materials, the City will also have a tire drop-off during the same time. It will be at the parking lot west of City Hall. It is for residential tires only. No commercial items or large tractor tires will be accepted. To see the full list of what is and is not accepted, click the link below.
