The Jefferson Police Department is urging everyone to be safe drivers during the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau special Traffic Enforcement Program (sTEP).
The Labor Day holiday sTEP Wave is focusing on safe celebrations and not incarceration. According to 2017 statistics, one person died every 48 minutes in a drunk-driving related crash in the United States. The deaths accounted for about one-third of all traffic deaths each year. Last year in Iowa, there will five fatalities over the three-day holiday weekend.
As Labor Day celebrations progress this year, law enforcement encourages everyone to be sober behind the wheel. The current sTEP Wave goes through September 2nd.
