While some people choose to use tanning beds, Greene County Public Health warns against those types of activities.

Greene County Public Health Director Becky Wolf says tanning beds can promote the threat of melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer.

“If you use a tanning bed before age 35 it increases your chances of melanoma by 59-precent. And then if we have women that are younger than 30, they are six-times more likely to develop melanoma if they tan indoors. Those are frightening statistics.”

Wolf says tanning beds are popular uses for sunlight exposure, but she cautions anyone from using them and to always wear sunblock to prevent yourself from exposure to the sun if you are outdoors.
