For the first time in recent memory, the Jefferson Police Department hired a female officer.

Ashley Wilson lives on a farm in northern Greene County. The Schleswig native graduated from Manson Northwest-Webster High School and has an associates degree in equine studies from Kirkwood Community College. She previously worked at Western Edge in Ames and most recently at the Jefferson Post Office. She talks about why she wanted to pursue a law enforcement career.

“Being a mother, I see that our community is changing and I really want to have my children grow up in a safe community. And that’s what I really want to portray towards Jefferson is keeping it safe and keeping crime down.”

She then found out about the open police officer position and was hired. Police Chief Mark Clouse is excited to have her on board.

“I think she’s a very good fit for our department and our community. I’m really looking forward to working with Ashley. And I think as time goes on here the residents are really going to respect her and enjoy her being a part of our team.”

Ashley is married to Sean and they have two school-age kids with Emma and Elenor. Ashley’s first day with the police department was this past Wednesday, with a starting salary of $42,554.
