Dallas County Sheriff Chad Leonard conducted a special presentation at the most recent Board of Supervisors meeting, where he promoted a deputy to sergeant.

During open forum of the meeting, Leonard brought up Deputy Bret Maxwell before the Board, indicating he was going to swear him in as the new Detective Sergeant of the Sheriff’s Office. After reading the oath, Maxwell’s daughters Kinzie and Lexi did the honors of attaching the sergeant chevrons to his shirt collar. The two girls and his wife Kim then joined Maxwell, Leonard, and other members of the Sheriff’s Office for a photo opportunity. Maxwell is now the fourth sergeant among the Sheriff’s Deputies, and the sole detective.

Beginning this year, Leonard has conducted all oath ceremonies in front of the Supervisors, whether it be new deputies or promotions like with Maxwell. Leonard believes it’s important for his officers to be sworn in not only before the individuals who oversee all County operations, but also with the public able to witness the occasion.
