Two area communities recently received grant money to plant new trees.

The Alliant Energy and Trees Forever “Branching Out” program allows communities to apply for grant funds to plant new trees or replace trees that were damaged in storms or from the emerald ash borer. Greenfield was awarded $3,828 to replace trees from last year’s windstorm and to add more trees to city streets. Jefferson was given $2,500 to add trees to its city streets.

The two cities were among 39 recipients of over $105,000 in grant funds. This is the 29th year of the program.
