Dallas County Conservation is getting set to offer their second Healthy and Homemade Cooking Workshop of the summer, this time with a focus on working ahead.

On Sunday, August 11th from 1:30-2:30 p.m., the public is invited to an event called “Cook Now, Enjoy Later.” Dallas County ISU Extension Nutrition and Wellness Director Mary Krisco will teach attendees about making meals while you have free time during the weekend, which can be frozen and thawed whenever you need them during the week. The workshop will be held at Forest Park Museum and Arboretum in Perry, and Curator Pete Malmberg says there are many different applications for what Krisco will teach. “One of the things she’s really interested in is working with people on preparing meals for their elderly parents and shut-ins and those types of things. We all know a few older people that do eat well, but most of them are kind of like my mother: ‘I’ll eat my three bites, I’m going to drink my Coke.’ Well, that kind of adds up on you after a while, so we’re trying to get them to eat better.”

The “Cook Now, Enjoy Later” program costs $5 to attend, which includes all materials needed for the class. Preregistration is required to attend, though payment can be made at the door. For more information or to sign up, stop in or call Forest Park Museum at 515-465-3577.
