The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Tuesday.
The meeting began with discussion on establishing an all-terrain and off-road utility vehicle ordinance that would allow ATV and UTV use on county roads. The County currently defers to state code which prohibits use of the vehicles. Sheriff Marty Arganbright says this topic has been discussed for a decade, and that he sees an always increasing use of these vehicles. Casey Mayor Barry Chalfant and resident Steve Keith also spoke in support of an ordinance, sharing the economic benefit communities could gain if allowed to use them. No formal action was taken as County Attorney Brenna Bird said that this discussion is the first step to drafting an ordinance.
Bird then gave an update. Since she assumed the position last January, Bird said July has been a record month with 127 new cases filed, which equals to last April, May, and June combined. She said 51 of the cases are related to controlled substances, which Arganbright added is an epidemic. So far this month the office has 18 new cases. Finally, the Board went into closed session regarding a possible lawsuit regarding a dog bite.
