Graduated senior Megan Carey was named to the Class 3A All-State Softball third team from the Iowa Girls Coaches Association. The Paton-Churdan grad played center field for Greene County and was a left-handed slap hitter who batted lead off for coach Tom Kennedy. It was Carey’s second time being named to the IGCA third team. She was also honored following her sophomore season.
Carey batted .406 for the 10-18 Rams had struck out just three times in 96 at-bats. Coach Kennedy told Raccoon Valley Radio that Carey wasn’t completely sold on the idea of playing high school softball coming out of eighth grade, but he’s glad she did. “Megan was such an outstanding player for us, both at the plate and in center field. Plus, she’s a tremendous person and leader, and we’re all very happy for her. She’s very deserving.”
