In order to have good football teams of course you have to have to master the three facets of the game: Offense, defense, and special teams. For the Wildcats of WCV, special teams will be something that they will be looking to work on as fall practice begins on August 12th.
Last season, the Wildcats converted a respectable 75% of their extra point attempts converting nine out of their twelve attempts last season. Field goals were a different however, as they weren’t able to convert any of their five attempts.
WCV also had a punting average of 35.5 yards per play, with one kick going 60 yards. Their punt return team also took one back to the house for a touchdown. The big need for improvement will be kickoff returns. In 42 kickoff returns, the Wildcats only averaged an 14.6 yards per return.
If WCV can make some improvements to their special teams, especially on field goals and kickoff returns, the Wildcats could look to make some noise for the 2019 season.
