Football is a sport steeped in tradition and the Greene County Rams are no exception. Each season following the last scheduled home game the seniors on the team hold hands and walk from the north end zone to the south, where the rest of the team waits to greet them. It can be an emotional experience, and one that is no doubt made more pleasant when the Rams win the game. That was the case on Oct. 18 when Greene County downed winless Clarinda Academy 55-8 at Linduska Field. With the scoreboard lit up and showing the lopsided victory the seniors made their march from one end of the field to the other.
Head coach Dean Lansman said the tradition was born before he starting coaching here, but he likes it and called the walk “a great tradition.”
Greene County is 4-4 overall and 3-2 in Class 2A District 8. The Rams play on Oct. 25 in Ida Grove to end the regular season vs. OABCIG and both teams have playoff aspirations. The Falcons are 4-4 overall and 2-3 in district play. Coverage on KG98 begins at 6 p.m. with kickoff at 7 p.m.
