A 10-23 record wasn’t what the Greene County High School baseball team strived for in 2019. Coach John Hupp’s Rams did pull some upsets among those 10 wins. They opened Class 3A District 4 action with a 2-1 upset of number 8 Gilbert. The last week of the regular season they won 9-5 over 2A State qualifier Underwood, and on June 15 at the Saydel Tournament in Des Moines, it was Greene County 2 and 2A fifth ranked Van Meter 0. The Bulldogs beat Underwood 17-7 on Monday night at Principal Park in Des Moines in the 2A quarterfinals. VM plays West Sioux (Hawarden) Thursday in the semifinals.
Coach Hupp talked about the win over VM. “You could tell they were a good hitting team, but we threw a guy with a knuckleball and other junk and they hit fly ball outs nearly every at-bat. We caught them on an off day, but we knew they were a really good team.”
Bulldogs are 32-3 and have won 18 games in a row and haven’t lost since the Rams got them six weeks ago.
