As area corn fields reach high this time of year, the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office reminds motorists not to let the scenery impair their driving.

Guthrie County Sheriff Marty Arganbright says drivers should watch out for motorcycles and other vehicles that may be obstructed by corn fields when reaching rural intersections, “That happens every year when the corn gets tall so I think most people that are local know when there’s an intersection and you can’t see you need to yield, whether there’s a yield sign or not and of course stop means stop.”

Arganbright adds after you’ve stopped at a stop sign to slowly pull forward in order to see clearly for traffic before crossing a county road. According to the Iowa Department of Transportation there has so far been 170 traffic fatalities this year, including 20 for motorcycle operators and passengers.
