The City of Grand Junction will be highlighted this weekend at its Sesquicentennial celebration.

The festivities begin on Friday. The Greene County Historical Society kicks everything off with their monthly program taking place at the Grand Junction Community Center at 1pm, with a look back to the Greene County area movies theaters. Other activities for Friday include a carnival, narrated hayrack historical rides from 2-5pm, a play by “Off the Track Players” at 5pm in the community center and the beverage garden opens at 5pm with a musical performance by Through the Darkness at 7pm with a $5 admission fee

Saturday begins with breakfast served by the Grand Junction Public Library at the community center from 8-9:30am, followed by the Jack Teagarden Memorial Golf Tournament at the Lakeside National golf course at 9. There are several contests that morning as well, including trivia, best beard and pie baking. Other morning activities include a car show from 10am-3pm and the parade at 11am.

Saturday afternoon, everyone can enjoy a box lunch picnic, an artisan fair, a visit from the Blank Park Zoo, a performance by the Greene County Singers, and there will be face painting, kickball and bags tournaments, and hayrack rides. In the evening, the Greene County Cattlemen will serve a meal, followed by live entertainment in the beverage garden with Jamie Kelley from 8-11pm with a $5 admission fee.

Sunday wraps up the event at 1pm with a historical program on the City’s 150 years of transportation and transformation. It will take place at the community center. Planning Committee Member Alan Robinson talks about including several different age groups to the three-day event.

“We wanted to bring in younger people like young adults, because that’s often overlooked. We wanted families with children and of course we wanted to honor those who may have been around the area longer with real bonafide historical events that are tied in. In the context of that, it is 150 year celebration.”
