The Jefferson City Council convened Tuesday evening in regular session.

The meeting started with a public hearing regarding a zoning ordinance change, which was well-attended by the public. Arguments were made both for and against the rezone request, which would shift the area in question from Residential Single-Family to Residential Multi-Family. After considering all the arguments and closing the public hearing, the Council unanimously approved the first reading of the change to the zoning ordinance. Additionally, at the request of the developer in order to start the project right away, the Council waived the second and third readings, adopting the ordinance and making the rezone official.

After that, the Council approved an agreement with Alliant Energy to extend a gas line to the Grimmell Road lift station, followed by approval of a fairway mower purchase for the golf course. Next, they awarded the bid for the roof replacement for the water plant to Grell Roofing of Fort Dodge, and held the first reading of an ordinance for the automatic waste collection system. Finally, the Council approved the contract and payment to relocate 243rd Street to make room for the airport runway extension, which will be 100% paid for by the Federal Aviation Administration. The meeting concluded with discussion but no action regarding a frontage road project.
