The high school baseball season for 2019 is over for the Greene County Rams. Coach John Hupp’s team finished with a 10-23 record after losing to Boone at Boone on Monday night in the Class 3A District 4 title game. The Toreadors (19-12) advance to Wednesday night’s Substate 2 title game vs. Ballard (Huxley) in Slater.

The Rams scored both their runs in the top of the first inning. Austin Delp walked to start the game. Carter Morton bunted and reached a a throwing error by the pitcher. Delp scored on the play and Morton reached third. He scored on a Nick Breon SAC fly to left. Three batters- two runs. Little did the Rams know they would know score again against left-hander Spencer Turner. The only Greene County hits were singles from Joe Anderson, Clay Smith, and Breon. Turner struck the Rams out seven times and he walked three batters.

Brent Riley pitched well for the Rams. Boone tallied three unearned runs in the first inning with the help of two errors to go with three hits. He struck out two batters and walked two.

The score stayed 3-2 until the bottom of the sixth when Morgan Smith homered to left field to start the frame. Dylan Bangs singled and Jake Lewis hit a two-run home run to left center for a 6-2 lead. Riley was relieved by David Richter. The Toreadors scored an unearned run off Richter to round out the scoring. The Rams were charged with four errors to just one for Boone.

The Rams had four seniors who have played their last baseball game for Greene County. They are Anderson, Delp, Richter, and Smith.
