The Adair County Fair kicked off yesterday, with the crowning of this year’s fair royalty.
During Wednesday night’s gazebo presentations Jill Wallace was selected as queen. A recent Nodaway Valley High School graduate, she plans on studying pre-med at Southwestern Community College this fall. First runner up was Jennifer Holliday, second runner up was Ellan Clay, and Miss Congeniality was Sara Eddy. Hayden Griffith was named Little Miss, and Xaver Rubio was named Little Mister.
Thursday’s fair activities include a swine show, a “stuffed pet show,” where kids can bring their favorite plush animal to be judged, poultry showmanship, 4-H Communications Event, and a new ongoing event this year called the “Discover the Fair Scavenger Hunt.” Deena Wells with Adair County Extension says this activity is a project for 4-H member Ava Rectenbaugh, “Her big thing was she wanted to educate everyone on all different aspects of the county fair and get them to learn more about livestock projects and just what all is involved in bringing animals to the county fair.”
The scavenger hunt takes place at various times each day of the fair. Also happening each day are live broadcasts from the Raccoon Valley Radio Big Red Radio at the Adair County Fair through Sunday. To hear more about the fair, listen to today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program with Wells on air and at raccoonvalleyradio.com.
