The Adel City Council convened Tuesday evening in regular session.
The meeting began with swearing in the newest officer in the Adel Police Department, Brandon Pickett. The Council then discussed the water conservation plan with Water Superintendent Jordon Altenhofen. He mentioned that the City has been under a “Water Watch” due to hot, dry weather since last week, and they haven’t seen much improvement since then. The Council discussed possibly moving into a “Water Warning” as early as this week if the watch proves ineffective. City staff said in the event a warning is issued and water levels continue to fall, they would then utilize their emergency connection through Xenia Rural Water.
The only action item was approval of the final plat for Sargent’s Second Addition, which was tabled at the previous week’s meeting. The meeting concluded with discussion on the City’s water, sewer, and storm water rate increases. Gary Brons with McClure Engineering explained that utility projects going on throughout the City are the reason for why the rate increases are necessary. Representatives from the City’s financial advisors PFM also outlined scenarios for future rate increases. No decisions were made at the meeting, and the Council likely won’t take action until the next calendar year.
