The Adair County Fair officially begins today, including several 4-H and FFA shows, activities, and recognition to several residents.
Today’s schedule features the livestock judging contest, dog show, “Discover the Fair” scavenger hunt, quilt show, a free barbecue hamburger and pork burger meal, ice cream social, and gazebo presentations at 8 p.m. The fair will crown its Little Miss and Little Mister Adair County, the Soil and Water Conservation District will present local conservation awards, Adair County Extension will present this year’s 4-H Hall of Fame inductee and give senior recognition, and the County Fair King and Queen will be announced.
Fair Board President Scott Steele describes what makes this fair an appealing attraction for all, “We have such a unique fairgrounds where it is spread out, you can actually spend most of the day just walking around visiting with people, watching a 4-H show here, an FFA show there, and (if) you get tired you can sit up under a shady tree and chit chat with people. And just like small town rural Iowa you don’t have to be rushed from one place to the other and you can just really enjoy the day and enjoy the people around you.”
Wednesday will wrap up with fireworks after the gazebo presentations by the Creston Shooters and J&M Displays. Raccoon Valley Radio is broadcasting live each day from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. from the fair.
