The 2019 Perry Fourth of July Celebration is in the books, and organizers felt it was a big success.
The day started with the annual parade down Willis Avenue, which Perry Chamber of Commerce Director Lynsi Pasutti felt went very smoothly. The first place parade entry this year went to Raccoon Valley Bank, earning the business Perry Bucks. After that, the festivities moved to Pattee Park, where there was food and merchandise vendors, water games, and the Raccoon Valley Radio Big Red Radio broadcasting live throughout the day. There was also an assortment of afternoon entertainment, including Showtime Dance Studio, Los Laureles, and the return of the Bill Riley Talent Search. The winners of the talent show were 11-year-old Brigid Bonner from Denison in the Sprouts division, and 16-year-old BaiYu Fisher from Des Moines in the senior class.
The evening concluded with a concert by local band Rukkus and the annual fireworks display. Pasutti felt there were very few hiccups with the day’s events, though she said there are some things to be cleaned up for next year, starting with the talent show. “There’s always logistical things to work through, and there’s never enough volunteers to go around to help everything go smoothly. So that’s just something that we always try to work on each year. But with this being the first year for our Bill Riley Talent Search — we’ve done it in the past, (but it’s) my first year — there’s always something to learn; technical difficulties with music, things like that.”
Pasutti did feel the entertainment at the bandshell was very well attended this year, which was something she wanted to improve upon from last year, and she attributed that largely to the talent show. There’s little rest for Pasutti and the Chamber following a successful Independence Day event, as the Sesquicentennial Celebration runs today through Sunday.
