An Adel woman is hoping to bring small town agriculture to the small screen with the help of a grant from the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs.
The DCA recently announced more than $2.1 million in grants for art, film, history, and culture, and included in that was a $30,000 “Greenlight Grant” awarded to Colleen Krantz of Adel. The grant is new this year, and serves to help local filmmakers produce features, shorts, pilot episodes, or proof-of-concept videos to propel their scripts to the screen. The project Krantz got funded is a narrative television drama called “Complete Bull,” which focuses on a young woman trying to make her way in the world of modern agriculture. Eligible projects for the “Greenlight Grants” must be ready for production, contain content that advances Iowa’s brand, and demonstrate public value. With some luck and hard work, Krantz’s show could be picked up by a major network or streaming service within the next year or two.
Her project was one of four recipients of the inaugural “Greenlight Grants,” with a total of $140,000 awarded.
