scranton-sesquicentennial

A reminder that today is the City of Scranton’s 150th celebration event.

The Sesquicentennial kicks off at 8:30am with Breakfast with the Mayor at the community center, followed by the parade in the downtown area at 10:30. The food vendors are open starting at 11:30am, along with the free motorcycle, tractor, car and truck show from 11:30am-1pm.

Several festivities begin at noon. A historical scavenger hunt will be for young adults and it starts at the gazebo. There will also be a variety of kids activities, which Event Chair Carol Eason describes, “We also have an open carnival, inflatables, small games for kids in particular. We’ll have a tractor pedal pull. We’re going to have some rides, tractor barrel ride, and also a really unique ferris wheel, it gets pulled by a lawnmower. We’ll have family games as well (from the) perspective of yard games (with a) frozen t-shirt contest (and) face painting is going to be available.”

The games will be from noon-4pm, along with a chainsaw artist at the tower park and an art show at the United Methodist Church fellowship hall. Line dancing will take place near the community center at 1:30pm, followed by bingo at 2 in the community center. At 4:15pm will be the alumni play and choir in the gym. The event wraps up with DJ Denny Matthews from 7:30-11pm in the beverage garden.

Raccoon Valley Radio’s Big Red Radio will also broadcast live from 9am-noon. To find out more information, click the link below.
