The unofficial results have been released for the special election to fill a vacancy on the Jefferson City Council.
According to the Greene County Auditor’s office, Darren Jackson was the unofficial winner with 303 votes of the 567 ballots that were cast. The other totals included Amelia Carman with 144 votes, Michael Mentzer with 60, Mark Wright with 55 and there were five write-in votes. The total number of ballots cast represented an 18.30-percent voter turnout. Jackson gave Raccoon Valley Radio his initial reaction after winning the election.
“I would like to congratulate my opponents for a good race and especially the people that helped support me. And then number one the people of Jefferson thank you for votes and support.”
Jackson was originally appointed to fill the vacancy earlier this year. However, a petition was submitted for the special election.
Jackson will serve the remainder of the term through 2021. The results are unofficial until the Greene County Supervisors canvass the votes next Monday. To see the full results, click the link below.
