On the Friday of this year’s Dallas County Fair, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will be hosting a special class for kids interested in caring for animals.

The brand new Vet Camp will be offered on July 12th at the fairgrounds in Adel. Dallas County Extension Director Jeff Jackson says attendees will get some hands-on experience with some smaller animals, and learn about what it takes to become a veterinarian. “(It’s) really just a great opportunity to learn more about (it). I mean, some of these youth really want to become vets someday, or you just want to learn how to take care of your own animal. And so this is just a great way, from certified vets, to be able to learn a little bit more.”

The cost to attend the Vet Camp is $10 per person, and registration is required. The program is being presented through a partnership between ISU Extension, Waukee Apex FFA, and Boone Progressor 4-H. On the day of the event, there will be different times for different age groups. Those in kindergarten through 3rd grade will meet from 9-11 a.m., the 4th-7th grade sessions will run from noon – 2 p.m., and the time for 8th-12th graders is 3-5 p.m. For more information or to sign up, click the link below.
