Fireworks are now being sold throughout the State of Iowa, so cities are taking the opportunity to remind residents of their respective fireworks ordinances.
In Perry, the ordinance remains unchanged from last year. Fireworks are only allowed to be discharged on July 4th between 9 a.m. – 11 p.m. The City also reminds people they can only shoot fireworks on their own property or other private property they have permission to be on, and that fireworks are strictly prohibited from being used in public areas, like City parks. Additionally, residents can not discharge fireworks within 200 yards of the hospital or any senior care facility. Finally, you must be over 18-years-old and not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Anyone in violation of the ordinance is subject to a $250 fine.
Meanwhile, in Adel there is a strict prohibition on the use of consumer fireworks at any time within the City limits. The City also points out that permits to discharge display fireworks for special events can only be obtained through the City Council, and a list of guidelines must be met before approval is given. However, display fireworks permits can be obtained any time during the year. Anyone with questions regarding the Perry and Adel fireworks ordinances is encouraged to reach out to the respective city halls at 515-465-2481 and 515-993-4525.
