We’re just days away from the special election regarding the $15.75 million bond referendum for the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School District.
The proposed bond would fund construction of a new elementary building in Adel for grades 2-4. ADM Superintendent Greg Dufoe says the new facility would help address the District’s rapid growth, and he encourages people to learn all they can before casting their votes. “We are close to June 25th, so we’re encouraging people to get out and vote. We have all kinds of information on our website, we’re pushing out information, we have mailers going out. So we encourage people to get informed and vote.”
If the bond is approved, the new school would be located on South 15th Street northwest of the Adel Family Aquatic Center. The School Board approved a purchase agreement for 49 acres of land at the location, contingent on the passage of the bond. Dufoe says the entire project is expected to cost around $18 million, with the difference being made up through Statewide Penny for Infrastructure sales tax funds.
Early voting for the special election can be done between now and Monday at the Dallas County Auditor’s Office in Adel. Voters are reminded that due to construction on the parking lot, they are to enter the building on the south end, through the alley. On Tuesday, voters in Adel will cast their ballots at the public library, while those in Minburn and DeSoto will vote at their city’s respective United Methodist Church. The polls will be open between 7 a.m. – 8 p.m., and voters are reminded to bring photo identification.
