The biggest Perry Farmers Market in the event’s history was held this past Thursday evening, buoyed by the presence of emergency vehicles in attendance for Public Safety Night.

In order to give the market more of a community gathering feel, the Chamber of Commerce has decided to hold special events on the third Thursday of each month. This month’s event featured fire trucks, ambulances, police cruisers, and more, which attendees were able to get up close with and explore. There was also a grill out provided by the Perry Firefighters Association.

In addition to the special guests, this past week’s farmers market was also the first occasion that the vendors spilled out onto 2nd Street. Chamber Director Lynsi Pasutti said the word is out about how successful the market has been since moving downtown a year and a half ago, which has led to more vendors wanting to take part. As a result, while there were still several located in Josh Davis Plaza, many more vendors set up shop in the street. Pasutti said that will continue through the rest of the summer, with 2nd Street between Warford and the alley set to be closed each Thursday evening.

The Perry Farmers Market runs from 4-7 p.m. each Thursday through September 26th, and the next special event will be “Feed the Market Night” on July 18th.
