PCM (Monroe) used a five run bottom of the seventh inning to win game one 6-5, then blanked the Rams 2-0 in game two. Coach John Hupp’s team fell to 2-9 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play and 5-14 overall. The Mustangs improved to 6-2 in the league and 12-2 overall with 10 straight wins.
The first game saw Brent Riley take the tough luck loss. PCM had a runner at first with two outs in the bottom of the seventh when a single, a walk, and three straight errors plated five runs and put the Mustangs in the win column. Riley allowed six hits on the night with two strikeouts, two walks, and two earned runs. The Rams had four errors in the loss, three on the final three batters of the contest.
Greene County had 10 hits in game one. Joe Anderson, Carter Morton, Austin Delp and Nick Breon all hit two hits with Delp and Breon getting doubles. Breon knocked in two runs and Delp had one RBI. Riley and Clayton Smith each singled and Riley had one run batted in, while Bryce Stalder had an RBI.
Game two saw PCM score single runs in the first and fourth innings and the Rams collected just two hits, both singles. Tyler Teeples and Morton had the hits. The Rams and Mustangs each had one error. Delp took the pitching loss despite allowing no earned runs and recording 12 strikeouts. He walked just one batter, but the offense was lacking.
The Rams are off until Saturday when they play at Merchant’s Park in Carroll in the Kuemper Catholic tournament.
